Shower Vs Walk In Tub Which One Is Best

Share to

When you decide to go through with a renovation for your bathroom, you may have one big question on your mind regarding the changes: do I install a walk-in tub or a shower?

This is a good question to be asking, as this installation alone can completely change the look and functionality of your bathroom renovation. Whatever choice you end up making will entirely depend on your personal preferences & what benefits you are looking to seek out of your home’s bathroom. To learn about the differences between these bathroom installations so you can figure out which one is best for your needs, check out the information we here at Lions Den Construction have come up with below.

The Difference in Style

This may seem like an obvious point, but tubs and showers differ greatly in their overall look and style. In general, these are the main aspects that make them different in terms of their style:

  • Walk-in Tubs: Come in claw-foot, standard, whirlpool, freestanding and soaking styles. While the standard style is most common and works well with most other design aspects of your bathroom, claw-foot tubs offer a touch of luxury and class.
  • Showers: Come in multiple different styles with two main types- stalls or walk-in showers. They can be installed with curtains or no curtains, or glassdoors that either swing or slide. These doors can be made of other materials as well, depending on what you prefer, although glass is common for its stylish look and its way of opening up the look of a bathroom.

The Cost Aspect

If you are looking to target a certain type of budget, which one is more cost-friendly? In general, tubs will almost always be the cheaper option. Tubs are easier to install and require a lot less plumbing modifications. These modifications often cost quite the good amount of money, so if you’re looking to avoid any money obstacles we recommend going with a tub.

The Aspect of Space

Since a lot of bathrooms are usually quite small, the discussion of how each installation takes up space is incredibly important. When it comes to which one takes up more space, a walk-in tub will usually take the cake on this one. Since a tub requires double, sometimes triple the floor space that a shower does, you will need a more spacious bathroom to comfortably fit a tub that is a good size. If you want to save space, we’ll always recommend a stand-up shower installation.
